Types of Work Permits

Canada is a highly developed country with many opportunities for work, a good salary, and a better life. The Government of Canada has anticipated this and that is why they have designed various work permits. These are:

Open Work
Permit

An open work permit lets you work for any employer in Canada. There are several visa programs that use Open Work Permit including Working Holiday Visa, Young Professionals Visa, International Experience Canada, Federal Skilled Worker Program, Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Trades Program, Provincial Nominee Program, and International Co-Op Program.

Employer-Specific
Work Permit

An employer-specific work permit lets you work in Canada according to the conditions on your work permit.

Different Canadian Provinces and Territories also select candidates through Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP) under the Express Entry system to cope with their labor market needs and shortages.

How Work Permit Application Works in Canada

Get a Job Offer

Depending on the type of work permit that you are applying for, you will most likely need a job offer from an employer in Canada. After you find the job, the company that has agreed to hire you must apply for a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) from the Government of Canada.

Submit the Application

After the Canadian Government issues the LMIA to the company that has hired you, then it is time to apply for the Temporary Work Visa. You must submit the application forms and the supporting documents.

Complete the Interview

Once you submit your application, the immigration officials might also ask for an interview to determine that you have submitted the right document and that you are being truthful.

Wait for Approval

Wait for the visa to be processed by Canada. Once approved, you can travel and accommodation arrangements.
