If the investment comes from a designated Canadian venture capital fund, you must secure a minimum investment of $200,000. If the investment comes from a designated Canadian angel investor group, you must secure a minimum investment of $75,000. If you’re accepted into Canada’s recognized business incubator, there is no need for investment capital.

  • 2. If I immigrate through the Start-up Visa Program, what happens if my business fails?

If your business fails, it doesn’t affect your permanent resident status. This program is designed so that the risk is shared between the public and private sector, so your PT status will not change.

  • 3. Do I need to invest my own money to get a start-up visa?

No, you’re not required to invest any of your own money. The minimum investment required is an investment that comes from a designated Canadian venture capital fund or angel investor group.

  • 4. What’s the processing time for a start-up visa?

The current processing time for the Canadian startup visa program is approximately 12 to 18 months, but it varies from case to case and may take less time. This processing time also includes the time taken in giving biometrics, as the authorities may ask the candidate to provide their biometrics along with their applications.
