Four Canadian provinces – New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island – together make up Atlantic Canada. The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP), originally launched in 2017, is a type of immigration program that allows employers in the Atlantic provinces of Canada to hire immigrants for jobs. The AIP has proven to be a major success for immigrants, employers, and the Atlantic region. It continues to provide permanent resident status to thousands of immigrants each year while promoting population and economic growth. If you’re ready to apply for the Atlantic Immigration Program, ABCan Immigration is here to help you. We will assist you throughout the application process to increase your chances of getting accepted by Atlantic provinces and designated employers.
The Atlantic Immigration Program facilitates immigration by connecting two parties:
1. Foreign immigrants who are interested in becoming residents of Atlantic Canada.
2. Employers designated by the government to hire foreign nationals.
Candidates must have at least one year of paid and full-time working experience in the past five years. You can count hours if you have worked abroad or inside Canada on valid work permit status. The work experience must be in National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill level 0, A, B, or C.
If you’re an International graduate, you can apply for AIP if you hold a minimum two-year degree, diploma, certificate, or trade or apprenticeship certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution in one of the Atlantic provinces, have been a full-time student for the entirety of their studies, have lived in one of the Atlantic provinces for at least 16 months during the last two years before graduating, and have held the required study permit and/or work permit, during your studies in Canada.
This category includes foreign workers with experience in managerial, professional, or technical jobs. This category uses a 100-point grid to determine eligibility. You will need 67 points to pass this gridding system.
This program for Express Entry is applicable for a wide variety of industries, such as chefs, industrial, electrical, and construction trades. For this category, you need at least 2 years of working experience in the specific industry or trade within the last 5 years before you apply for the visa.
This class asks for Canadian experience in managerial, professional, or technical jobs but it doesn’t use a point gridding system. You need at least 1 year of Canadian experience within the last 3 years before you apply for the visa.
Once a designated employer finds a candidate who meets their employment needs and the program criteria, that employer offers him or her a job.
Once the candidate has accepted the job, the employer will connect the candidate with a designated settlement service provider organization for a needs assessment and settlement plan.
In order to obtain this work permit, candidates will need a valid job offer, a letter from the province, and a commitment to apply for permanent residence within 90 days of the temporary work permit application.
Candidates, who received the work permit in one of the Atlantic provinces and then started working there, can now submit their permanent residence application to the program.
The Atlantic Immigration Program is an employer-driven program that facilitates the hiring of foreign nationals. All applicants arriving in Canada under AIP must have a job offer from a designated employer and an individualized settlement plan for themselves and their family. International graduates from a Canadian institution who want to work and live in 1 of Canada’s 4 Atlantic provinces are also eligible to apply. The process of obtaining a job offer, work permit, and then permanent residency can get quite complicated. Our immigration consultants are here to assist you in navigating through this immigration program so you can work and live in your dream country.
