Canada welcomes more than 100,000 immigrants through family sponsorship each year. 80 percent of these immigrants are sponsored under the Spouses, Partners, and Children Program, and the remaining 20 percent are sponsored under the Parents and Grandparents Program. If you’re looking to sponsor your family for immigration to Canada, AB Can Immigration is here to help you. Family sponsorship is a way to reunite families in Canada and we believe in keeping families together. Contact our immigration consultants to learn the application procedure, requirements, and eligibility to bring your family member to Canada or to reunite with your family in Canada.

Who Can Sponsor Family Members

Under the family sponsorship programs, a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, aged 18 or more, can sponsor family members to become Canadian permanent residents. With that permanent residence, those family members are able to live, study and work in Canada.

Whom you can sponsor

What You Need to Have to Become a Sponsor

Federal Skilled
Worker Program

This category includes foreign workers with experience in managerial, professional, or technical jobs. This category uses a 100-point grid to determine eligibility. You will need 67 points to pass this gridding system.

Federal Skilled
Trades Program

This program for Express Entry is applicable for a wide variety of industries, such as chefs, industrial, electrical, and construction trades. For this category, you need at least 2 years of working experience in the specific industry or trade within the last 5 years before you apply for the visa.

Canadian
Experience Class

This class asks for Canadian experience in managerial, professional, or technical jobs but it doesn’t use a point gridding system. You need at least 1 year of Canadian experience within the last 3 years before you apply for the visa.

How Family Sponsorship Application Works

The application process involves two parts:

1). The sponsorship application This establishes the sponsor’s eligibility and promise to financially support the spouse child or relative.

2). The relative’s application – This establishes his or her eligibility as a qualifying relative and shows that there are no medical or criminal bases for denying the application.

The applications for both sponsorship and permanent residence should be filled out and sent at the same time.

If the sponsorship application is approved, the permanent residence application is sent to the appropriate Canadian visa office. Once the IRCC has received your immigration application, you will receive an Acknowledgment of Receipt also known as an AOR. This AOR is a confirmation that your application file has been created.

You will need to submit certain documents. Applicants and each family member over the age of 18 must submit police certificates from the country where they have lived most of their life. The sponsored individual is required to submit the results of a medical exam at the time of application.

Collect Your Documents

Two of the documents you will need to start are English and/or French language test results and in some cases an Education Credential Assessment if you completed your studies outside of Canada to show that you’re eligible for Express Entry.

Submit Your Profile

You will have to create your Express Entry profile online with the information required by Immigration Canada and then submit it online.

Get an Invitation to Apply

Once your Express Entry profile has been submitted, Immigration Canada will rank and award you points. If you are highly ranked, you will be invited to apply for permanent residence as a skilled immigrant.

Apply and Come to Canada

Once you have applied, your PR application will then be processed within the next 6 months.
